Believing is seeing. We often get it the other way around. But we all know that if you’re scared then all of the sudden most everything you see is a potential danger. Likewise, if you are in a hilarious mood then everything you see is funny. Why? Because you are in that frame of mind or in that state of emotion. You believe things are scary or funny and therefore that is what you see around you. (There are always exceptions, but you get my basic point.) What we think and what we believe (either in the moment or overall) affects how we perceive. If that is true then we have some control over what we see when we take a moment and recalibrate our vision. [Click here to read my post ‘Same Storm Different View’]
Much like focusing a pair of binoculars or dialing in a microscope, we do not have to settle for blurry vision. We simply have to work on the way we see in order to get greater clarity. In 2021 I am wanting to keep that in view. How about you?
What Are We Doing Here
I started writing this blog called “The Best View In Town” back in November of 2015. The whole idea is that you can have the best view in town from wherever you are if you fix your eyes on Jesus and see all He is doing in your circumstances rather than focus on your circumstances and wonder what in the world is going on! It’s not what you see… it’s how you see, and who you see. After posting nearly every week for two years I took a break from the blog to finish some other projects.
With the start of 2021 I am back to posting on Monday’s and hope you’ll join me in the journey and share a post with someone you think could use the encouragement. It is my prayer that every Monday you’ll find something informative, thought-provoking, challenging, and encouraging. In due time, I hope to take some of my posts and turn them into some short video devotionals. If there are certain concepts you would like me to work on I would love to hear from you. Just shoot me an email here or leave a comment.
Don’t Be Bullied
In the meantime, determine not to be bullied by what you see or intimidated by what you perceive. Fix your eyes on the author and perfecter of your faith and see what He is doing and you may find a much more hope-filled perspective. As you recalibrate your vision, not only will it help you stay hopeful, it will allow you to realize just how much you have to offer those around you that need the same. It can be easy to lose sight of how much impact you have when you are intimidated, confused or self-focused. Circumstances can do that to you. I call that being bullied by life. Do not submit to that because what you have to offer is way too important. [Click here to read my post ‘Please Pass The Salt’]
You may not live in the house on the hill, or get to stare out at the ocean sunset each evening but you can have the best view in town when you invite Jesus to light up your perspective and help you see all the wonderful things He is working on in and through your circumstances. In 2021 let us focus on that together in greater measure.
From the Bible
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith… – Hebrews 12:1-2 NLT
For we live by faith, not by sight. – 2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV
This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. – Hebrews 6:19 NLT
