After meeting this couple he began to ask them if they had the ‘best view in town’ and they began to talk about their little house up on the ridge. After hearing about where their house was situated and how much joy and delight they found in it, my host felt the Lord reveal to Him that their ‘view’ He was speaking of wasn’t so much about their geography; it was their vantage point.
When you see well, beauty reveals itself. It’s as if you find what you’re looking for. My friend, Scott Volk, recently reminded me that in the story of the 12 spies (Numbers 13) ten spies saw what was impossible. Two saw the promise. And everyone got exactly what they saw.
I want to be one of those who has ‘the best view in town’. I desire to choose to be less impressed with my geography, or my present situation and more impressed with who I can see from any vantage point. If I see Him well, then ‘the things of earth will go strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace’, as the hymn writer famously wrote.
So, I’m calling this blog The Best View In Town and I hope to help a few people find perspective in life and shift their focus onto the God who is for them and away from the challenges that surround them.
God is for you today and so am I. – Nathan
